Articles On Psoriasis Locations
Your skin is thinner and more sensitive in some places, like your face, genitals, and the skin folds under your breasts and buttocks and in your groin. Psoriasis flares here can be more embarrassing, painful, and harder to treat.
Some common ways to deal with psoriasis — like managing your stress, not smoking, putting on moisturizer after a shower or bath, and getting plenty of rest — are good for these areas, too. But others are too harsh for tender skin.
You’ll need to consider where your patches are when you make decisions about what to do. Keep these things in mind to protect your sensitive skin and make living with your psoriasis easier.
What Are The Benefits Of Hyaluronic Acid
Whys hyaluronic acid so magical? For starters, HA can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water! In other words, it functions as a humectant and holds water molecules onto the surface of your skin to keep it nice and hydrated.
Anytime were talking about skin thats well-moisturized, were mainly referring to skin that has a lot of water content. Perhaps youve heard the term transepidermal water loss, or TEWL for short? This is the scientific term for the measurement of how much water is evaporated from the skin.
When a product prevents TEWL, that means its keeping your skin hydrated by making sure that water doesnt escape from your skins surface. Hyaluronic acid does exactly that by slowing the rate at which the water evaporates.
Apart from being a very effective hydrator, a couple of studies have also found that its very good for healing wounds, too!
If youre formulating your own products, or purchasing HA products that list the percentage, we recommend keeping the HA concentration below 2 percent. Why?
A very low molecular weight of 5 kDA HA has the ability to penetrate the skin , which means it can potentially carry other unwanted ingredients, chemicals, and bacteria more deeply into the skin. If you have compromised skin, this might be bad news. Thankfully, on its own, HA tends to not cause allergic reactions since our bodies also make it.

What Are The Symptoms Of Psoriasis
If youve ever wondered, what does psoriasis look like? then heres your answer: Psoriasis is easily spotted thanks to skin plaques, which are the most prominent symptom of the skin disease. Skin plaques form because the body is producing skin cells faster than they can be shed, which causes them to build up on the surface of the skin. When too many skin cells build up, its called a plaque or psoriasis patch, according to the Mayo Clinic. These plaques can range in size and are instantly recognizable. What does psoriasis look like? It presents as dry, cracked areas of skin that are itchy and red, purple, or even silver in color. These scaly plaques occur most often on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back, although the Cleveland Clinic states that they can occur anywhere on the body. Other psoriasis symptoms include swollen and stiff joints and cracked, pitted fingernails, per the Mayo Clinic.

This is where Neutrogenas T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo comes in. The product addresses dryness and flakiness on the scalp that can be caused by psoriasis while also keeping the surface hydrated. Included in the formula is coal tar extract, which scientists say works up to four hours after hair washing to help the scalp shed dead skin cells.

The Heartbreak: What Are The Causes Of Psoriasis
The exact causes of psoriasis are not fully known. Many researchers believe it is a combination of factors including family history, a faulty immune system, and effects from the environment.
- In people with psoriasis, certain white blood cells that normally fight off infection instead attack healthy cells . It is the most prevalent autoimmune disease in the U.S.
- New skins cells are formed too quickly and result in a layer of dead, scaly skin and white blood cells that remain on the top layer of skin instead of sloughing off.
- These patches of skin and lesions are known as psoriatic lesions or plaque psoriasis.
- Psoriasis can lead to feelings of embarrasment, self-consciousness, and worry.
Hyaluronic Acid Keeps You Young Effects On Eczema
Hyaluronic acid may sound a bit dangerous because has the word acid in it but is actually really good for your skin according to many cosmetic companies. It is known scientifically as glycosaminoglycan and is a gooey type substance which is made of part sugar and is found in connecting tissues throughout the body.
It has a great capacity of retaining moisture. Apparently 1 g of HA is able to hold up 6 L of water .
Moisture content is important in having younger skin because as we get older the HA in skin will decrease thereby our skin will start to lose its firmness and wrinkles will start showing. Thus adding Hyaluronic acid in many anti-aging and skin care products seems to be the simple solution in helping fight old age? The hype nowadays is that it helps prevent wrinkles.

Whats The Science Behind Hyaluronic Acid
The benefits of hyaluronic acid on the skinhas to do with its molecular weight and concentration. In this case, size matters! The molecular weight refers to its mass, or how big the HA molecule is. This is measured in something called unified atomic mass units daltons, or kDa for short.
HA between 50 to 1,000 kDa is the most beneficial for skin, with about 130 kDa being the best, according to the most recent human studies. Anything higher wont make too much of a difference. Anything lower might cause inflammation.
How did we get this number? When you look at studies, youll see a pattern, but one of the most thorough studies looked at HA with different molecular weights, including 50, 130, 300, 800, and 2,000 kDa.
After one month, they found that treatment with 130 kDa HA was the most effective, increasing skin elasticity by 20 percent. Both the 50 and 130 kDa groups had significant improvement in wrinkle-depth and skin roughness after 60 days. All the other molecular weights still improved elasticity and skin hydration, just less so. You can read more about this molecular weight analysis from the original breakdown here.

As a novel minimally invasive approach, microneedle-mediated transdermal drug delivery has received increased attention. Microneedle patch effectively penetrates the skin barrier of the stratum corneum and create efficient pathways for the delivery of drugs.
A randomized controlled trial based on split-body was planned to evaluate the efficacy of enhanced transdermal delivery of topical agent by hyaluronic acid -fabricated microneedle patch in psoriatic plaques. Six psoriatic plaques in a patient will be randomized to either microneedle HA patch, patch, or control groups. Patch group is planned for rule out the occlusion effect of patches. All lesions will be treated with topical agent and patches daily for 2-week period. The severity of psoriasis will be grated with modified PASI score and the clinical improvement will be assessed as % from baseline every week. Overall 20 patients with 120 psoriatic plaques will be enrolled.
Effect Of The Tested Formulations On Hacat Cell Apoptosis
Cells were seeded in 6-well plates at 2 × 105 per well, cultured for 24 h, and were either not treated further or treated with TNF- at a final concentration of 100 ng/mL. An equal volume of PBS was added to the control group. After incubation for 2 h, the tested formulations were treated with curcumin at a final concentration of 8.0 µg/mL, and incubation was continued for 46 h. Cells were incubated with 0.25% trypsin for 5 min, washed with serum-free medium, washed with PBS, and suspended with binding buffer. Annexin V was added to the cell suspension, incubated for 10 min, and centrifuged, and the supernatant was discarded. The cells were resuspended in binding buffer, stained with propidium iodide, and detected by flow cytometry.

Topical Hyaluronic Acid Is Breaking Through Dermis
FROM THE SOUTH BEACH SYMPOSIUM
MIAMI BEACH It may now be possible for patients to experience the benefits of hyaluronic acid fillers without a needle, according to investigators.
In a double-blind, controlled study of 100 women with moderate to severe photo-damaged skin, a novel nanotechnology was used to shepherd topical hyaluronic acid through the dermis, essentially overcoming the large particle size hurdle of years past.
Dr. Glynis Ablon
Significant improvements in overall efficacy, skin roughness, and “smoothing effect” were observed after 90 days. Blinded observers reported the benefits in 40 women who applied topical cross-linked hyaluronic acid twice a day to their full face, compared with 20 women who applied the nanotechnology vehicle only. Additional significant improvements were seen among another 40 women who applied non-cross linked topical hyaluronic acid using the same regimen.
“We know the skin is a barrier. It acts as a barrier for things getting in, but it can also prevent topical compounds from getting in,” said Dr. Glynis R. Ablon, who is on the dermatology faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles.
“Topical hyaluronic acid does appear to be penetrating the skin with this unique Ionic Nano Particle Technology delivery system,” she said.
Dr. Ablon and her colleague Dr. Mark S. Nestor conducted the study at two U.S. sites. Participants were 35 to 65 years old and evaluated at days 15, 45, 90, and 120 .

What Is The Best Way To Use Your Hyaluronic Acid Serum
First of all, regardless of the climate, whether you live in a dry or a humid environment , never apply your hyaluronic serum to dry skin. Always leave your skin at the very least slightly damp and then apply your serum. If your skin is very dry and the air is also very dry, then leave your skin wet, not dripping wet, so that the hyaluronic serum doesnt slide off your skin, but still wet rather than damp.
When they serum has absorbed into your skin, which will only take a moment or two, then you need to apply a moisturizer over the top of the serum, as this will seal the hyaluronic acid serum into your skin. Some people with oily skin find that they dont need to use a moisturizer over the top of their hyaluronic serum, but for the rest of us, we really need to take this extra step.
The Best Hyaluronic Acid Serum For Dry Skin In Dry Climates
If you have very dry skin and you live in a dry climate, then you need to prevent the hyaluronic acid drawing moisture from your skin. Instead you want it to add as much hydration as possible to your skin. The best way to do this is to look for a hyaluronic serum that includes other moisturizing ingredients as well, avoiding any serum that is pure hyaluronic acid.
Other moisturizing ingredients that will support the hyaluronic serum and help to add more moisture to your skin include vitamin E, MSM and Jojoba Oil. Vitamin E helps your skin to retain moisture and keep that moisture locked in, Jojoba Oil helps to moisturize your skin and prevent moisture loss, whilst MSM helps all of your hydrating ingredients to penetrate your skin. The hyaluronic serums that you might find the best for very dry skin are JK Hyaluronic Acid, Azure Naturals Ultimate Hyaluronic Acid and the Body Merry Hyaluronic acid.
