Scalp Psoriasis Vs Seborrheic Dermatitis
Certain skin diseases look like psoriasis but actually fit another diagnosis. One example of this is seborrheic dermatitis, a red, itchy rash that appears most often on the scalp.
Seborrheic dermatitis seems to have roots in stress, genetic factors, a particular yeast that lives on skin, certain diagnoses or medications and cold, dry weather. Newborns, men and people with oily skin are at the highest risk of this particular form of dermatitis.
Dandruff is caused by seborrhea. Infants with the condition are often referred to as having cradle cap, as well as given an improper diagnosis of diaper rash when the redness occurs around the groin.
Like psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis most often clears and flares throughout the lifetime. If you have symptoms of these disorders, see a dermatologist for a confirmed diagnosis and treatment options. Since seborrhea is not an autoimmune disease, treatment looks different although many of the same items and supplements on my psoriasis diet are similar for those with seborrhea.

Food sensitivities can affect symptoms of psoriasis as well as other autoimmune diseases and chronic illnesses. In addition, I also recommended removing all grains and legumes, dairy, corn, soy, and nightshades. This is not only because theyre inflammatory themselves they can also cross-react with gluten.

Psoriasis: Healing From The Inside Out
Posted by Renee Harris on
If you have a serious case of psoriasis, I want to introduce you to a friend who experienced sudden and unexplainable psoriasis, was told to just live with it, but was eventually able to conquer it naturally.
Laurie Neverman goes deep to figure out her psoriasis issue, not just her own, but her mothers issues with skin. It was horrible. .
Her psoriasis hit very suddenly:
When my skin erupted in 2015, I thought I was dealing with the family curse of inflamed skin that my mother had worn until she passed away in 2010. I went to a dermatologist she said it was plaque psoriasis, and that I should learn to live with it.
People would stare at her oozing, peeling skin. To read Lauries skin journey would make anyone grateful to only have the occasional acne breakout or fine lines and wrinkles. She explained that she suddenly looked like a burn victim her skin felt like it was on fire.
Her mom experienced something similar a few years before, leading up to her death in 2010. It all went unexplained. It was disconcerting, but she had to find a treatment.
Laurie was able to look past the bad advice from some of the dermatologists and find an answer.
If you have visible symptoms like skin conditions , swelling, bloating, dark circles under the eyes, funky body odor, flaky scalp, constipation, etc then something is also not working where you cant see it. Laurie writes.
Heres what she found when she was in the throes of research:
Getting Attracted Towards Alternative Healing
When her first husband was diagnosed with brain tumor, the doctors almost gave up and declared that he would die within 3 weeks. Then, he started grape juice fast, also known as grape therapy, to get some relief from the pain. Surprisingly, he lived for almost 5 months and during that period he had very little pain and headache. Although this grape therapy didnt cure his tumor, but let him live a healthy life for far more time than predicted by the doctors. At that time, for the very first time, Heather realized the power of alternative healing. During all those 5 months, she also ate a very healthy diet to support him. Together, they meditated and did creative visualizations. Due to all this, she was psoriasis free for the very first time since its appearance on her skin. Although it was back after a few months of his death.
After this experience, she continued doing a 10 day grape juice fast every year for the next two or three years. She hasnt mentioned juice fast anymore in the book. Hence, I assume that she gave up on juice fast after that. Further, she mentions that grape juice fast is not a cure for psoriasis, but, it is a part of the internal body cleansing process which is essential for psoriasis healing.

The Link Between Psoriasis And The Immune System
No one ever really considered that the immune system had any real role in psoriasis, or its painful outbreaks. Not until a new drug Cyclosporine was offered to arthritis patients. What happened next was both surprising and unexpected. Patients who were prescribed the immune suppressing drug for their arthritis symptoms , began to report a decrease in their skin attacks. Without warning, researchers were faced with the theory that the immune system could be causing psoriasis.
It didnt take long before researchers began to figure out the mystery of psoriasis in regards to how the immune system can impact it.
The Role of the Immune System on the Skin
The immune system is responsible for standing guard and attacking any invaders which penetrate the body. Since the skins main job is to act as the bodys first defense mechanism against invasion, it is no wonder that the immune system works in close connection with each layer of the skin. Heres how it all works:
1. Immune cells patrol the entire body for dangers. Healing Psoriasis From the Inside Out

Pillar : Tame The Toxins
Tame the toxins by reducing your exposure to toxins. Start with adding more organic food into your psoriasis treatment diet. In addition, drink plenty of filtered water to support your natural detox processes during and after psoriasis treatment. If you suspect that toxic mold could be to blame for your autoimmune condition, youll need to find the source of the mold. Next, you must either clean the mold or get away from it. Then, you may require prescription medications to bind the toxins and antifungals to kill them. Finally, glutathione can also help remove the toxins from your system. I cover this topic in much greater detail in The Autoimmune Solution.

Any of these treatments may work fine to relieve your symptoms and make you feel better for now. What Is The Relationship Between Psoriasis And Your Diet
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder. The body mistakenly attacks its own tissue, explains Wesdock. It starts overproducing skin cells, which lays down plaques on your skin. Plaques are red, scaly patches that can be itchy or painful. Sometimes psoriasis is accompanied by psoriatic arthritis, an inflammatory joint condition.
Neither of these conditions is caused by anything you eat, but theres an important link between your diet and psoriasis. Many foods are known to cause inflammation throughout the body. In some people, this widespread irritation can make the symptoms of psoriasis worse.

One Thing Is To Change Our Diets
I have seen people say they tried that and it didnt work, but I wonder how strictly special diets were followed and for how long. For example, I cut dairy and soy out of my diet and then one day had turkey bacon without reading the label. The damn stuff had soy in it! I read a label for a type of tea the other dayand the tea had soy lecithin in it! An autoimmune protocol diet is really limited and no fun when you just want a slice of pizza or a bowl of cereal or a sub sandwich, so you have to decide what the lesser evil isthe spots/patches/scales/itch or limiting what you eat. Maybe you wouldnt even need to be so strict. Maybe a paleo diet minus nightshades would be enough.
Transforming The Treatment Of Psoriasis From The Inside Out
Transforming the Treatment of Psoriasis from the Inside Out
Each year at Janssen we mark World Psoriasis Day. We do so in support of the more than 100 million people affected worldwide.
This week as we recognize psoriasis patients and their carers we pause to reflect on the 2017 theme Psoriasis Inside Out. We are reminded of how diseases like psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are often misunderstood, with many patients living without accurate diagnosis. Psoriasis is so much more than what is seen on the outside. Every aspect of life is impacted when someone is diagnosed with a form of psoriasis, plaque psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis.
Whats more, it is also a disease that is associated with one of the highest rates of co-morbidity. People living with severe psoriasis are 58% more likely to have a heart attack and 30% more likely to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. While prevalence is relatively low in Asian populations , in some countries in Asia Pacific such as Australia, prevalence can be as high as 6.6% in populations of different ethnicities.
The impact of disease on a physical, social and emotional level is huge. In fact, a study comparing psoriasis to other chronic conditions, found its mental and physical impact to be similar to that seen in cancer, heart disease and depression. Added to this is the enormity of social stigma and shame that patients report enduring on a regular basis because of their disease.

What Is Psoriasis And What Causes It
- Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease, characterized by the proliferation of the skins outer layer of cells, which fail to mature and fall off, and then results in reddish patches often covered with silvery scales, especially on the knees, elbows, scalp and trunk.
- There is no cure as yet, for this non-contagious inflammatory disorder, which has a genetic factor, has no gender preference, and is almost unknown in the black community.
- Treatment is aimed at reducing the symptoms.
- Attacks are thought to be caused by stress and general debility often following a viral or bacterial infection.
